How Water Jet Cutting Works
As the name implies, the technology utilizes a high velocity stream of water to precisely cut materials. The waterjet cutting machine is supplied with a high pressure pump. This pump generates a steady flow of pressurized water (40,000 to 55,000 psi) to initiate the cutting process. The water stream passes through specialized tubing, and reaches inside the nozzle of the machine. The pressurized water then passes through a small diameter orifice, which is located inside the nozzle. Here, the form of the water stream is changed to a coherent jet. This high velocity mixture travels at high speed and impact on the kerf face and performs the actual cutting.
